THE BASIC TASKS OF THE BOTANICAL GARDENS
The South-Siberian Botanical Gardens was organized as a centre of study and conservation of flora in Altay and preparation of botanists.
The basic tasks of the Botanical Gardens are
- study of biology, spreading and working out measures for protection of rare and endangered plants;
- introduction of rare, valuable and decorative plants;
- introduction of biotechnological methods in studying and reproduction of rare and threatened species, growing new decorative and valuable plants;
- reintroduction of rare and endangered species of flora in Altay;
- study of flora and vegetable cover in the Altay Mountains;
- preparation and the edition of multivolume summary «Flora in Altay»;
- replenishment of herbarium in the SSBG;
- monographic study of separate groups of plants;
- replenishment of the collection of seeds and plants in the SSBG;
- conduction of summer practice, laboratory work and special courses;
- giving materials for writing research works and diplomas;
- preparation of qualified specialists in Botany of different profiles;
